I understand what makes a To Do app great. It is easy to write a run-of-the mill, database-driven To Do app.
To make a great To Do app is so much harder. You have to think about every use case and decide what matters most to your customers. You need to streamline your interface until every move feels natural.
You need to support all the different axes a todo can lie on while not overwhelming your customers with choices. With the release of Things 3, the developers have created a To Do app that not only serves its customers needs esquitely well, but inspires them to get all their todos into the system and get things done.
It looks beautiful and has a carefully crafted feature set that covers almost any scenario you will encounter. It might take a tad getting used to, but once you dive in you will be rewarded with a more organized life.

In short, we knew that big improvements were possible for Things — and well overdue. So in January, we disassembled our watch app and began replacing all the parts: the sync, data layer, complication integrations, background refresh, Siri integration — everything under the hood is completely new. The most important change in this release is that Things on your watch will now sync directly with Things Cloud.
Everything is already on your watch and ready to go. Of course, all of this requires a Things Cloud account. By default, the watch app saves new to-dos to your Inbox; you can now set Today as the default instead.
To access this setting, open the watch app and force press in the main list. Many of you complained that there was no way to remove a to-do from Today — that is to say, put it in Anytime. You can now do this by tapping Clear in the date picker.
Incidentally, the new implementation of sync brings another benefit: many of you wrote in saying you use a spare watch for sleep tracking and really missed having Things on it. Now you can! For Mac macOS The concepts are clearer. Just take a look at the basic building block of Things - its to-dos. You immediately get a sense of how the new apps feel. When you open a to-do, it smoothly transforms into a clear white piece of paper, ready for your thoughts. If you like, you can add more details tags, a checklist, a start date, a deadline , but those fields are neatly tucked away in the corner until you need them.
It's a way of building apps, and we live by it. There's a lot of thought, and trial, and error, that went into making these new apps simple to use while at the same time putting in all the powerful features. You'll notice this in every corner of the app.
The new apps are not mere iterations of what came before, they are a whole new app experience. Calendar events now display together with your to-dos, giving an outline of your schedule.
Decide which calendars you want to see in Things: Personal, Family, Work, and more. The events are neatly grouped at the top of your Today list. With your to-dos below, your whole day is laid out before you. So we added This Evening, which allows you to keep these to-dos separate from the rest, in their own discrete list. Plan your week ahead with the new Upcoming list.
It shows everything on your agenda for the coming days: scheduled to-dos, repeating to-dos, deadlines, and calendar events. A quick peek at this list is all it takes to stay on top of your schedule — and if your plans change, re-scheduling your to-dos is as easy as drag and drop.
Large projects are easier to complete when you can break them up into smaller parts — just add a few Headings! Use headings to create categories, milestones, or whatever you need — just give each one a name and drag your to-dos underneath. Headings are a true productivity booster. Not only do they give you a nice visual structure, but you can now easily rearrange whole groups of to-dos simply by dragging and dropping their heading.
And when you're done, archive your heading and all of its to-dos for future reference. Use a checklist when shopping for a list of ingredients, or when packing your bag for a trip.
You can even paste in a bulleted list from another app and Things will convert it to a checklist for you. The new plus button adds some magic to every interaction. As you'd expect, tapping it creates a new to-do. But now comes the magic: if you want to insert your to-do somewhere else, simply command the button where it should go! Lift it up with your finger, drag it into place, and let go. Insert a new item right where you want it: drag the button to insert a to-do at the right place in your Today list, or under the right heading in a project, or add a new to-do to the right day in Upcoming.
Everything becomes so seamless — it's magical. When you're inside a project, the Magic Plus has another skill: creating headings! Just drag it to the left margin and let go. No matter what list you're in, you can send a new to-do straight to your Inbox — with a single, consistent gesture and without ever leaving the list.
